On Monday July 25, Congressman James E. Clyburn will host a webinar with staff from the U.S. Department of Education to offer constituents information on applying for public service loan forgiveness (PSLF) under the Biden Administration’s temporarily expanded program. The PSLF program was designed to forgive federal student loans to qualifying employees working in the public service sector. In October of 2021, President Biden enacted a temporary expansion to the program as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, which waived several eligibility requirements so that more borrowers qualified for student loan forgiveness.

“For years, the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program has been marred by bureaucratic red tape and stringent eligibility requirements that left many hard-working public service workers from accessing this critical lifeline,” said Congressman Clyburn. “Thanks to the Biden Administration’s temporary extension, more than 145,000 borrowers found debt relief under this program, and many more remain eligible. This webinar will be an opportunity for borrowers to learn important information on how to navigate and apply for this program, and I encourage anyone who may be eligible to attend.”
